Allona made it to the next town over, nearly two days later, having overestimated both the weight of her belongs and her level of fitness. On the bright side, it seemed that nobody was searching for her yet... but it made things riskier... She had hid and slept in the bushes along the way... Who was to say that her father or one of his friends hadn't gotten ahead of her?
Finding a place that was well hidden and off the main road, she found a hollow under a tree and proceeded to strip. She bound her small chest flat, unbraided her hair and tied it back into a ponytail, before dawning a pair of leather breeches and a wool shirt. Tucking her hair under the shirt and dawning a vest, she found she could pass for a rather lanky and effeminate young boy...
Tucking everything into the tree hollow except for enough coins to buy a horse and tack, she hid everything and hopefully all the signs where she had entered the bush, made a mental note of where it was and then headed into town. With any luck, they were looking for a runaway girl, not a young boy coming to get a horse for his mother...
Finding a horse was harder than she thought it would be, and she had a few close calls about the pitch of her voice... but she covered herself by bitching about sounding like a girl and threatening to take 'his' business elsewhere. After looking at a few horses, she was ready to look somewhere else, until she heard the fuss in the next stall over.
The horse was an ornery, cranky and ugly beast... that no 'man' could ride... but was sweet as sugar for a woman... Much to the stable masters amusement, the 'boy' bought the beast for next to nothing, stating that it was for his mother, and at that price he could use it to feed his dogs if she didn't like it.
After quite a fuss, the stallion was bridled and the saddle and saddlebags also put onto the horse... and Allona lead it off by the reigns while the stable master laughed about the 'stupid boy that bought a horse he can't ride.' Her new horse was anything but stupid though, he knew she wasn't a male... and as soon as she was out of sight of the stable, she mounted him and started back towards where she had stashed her things.
